Aliens Are Real!

Aliens Are Real!!

Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.” – 1 Peter 2:11

Do you believe in aliens?

Aliens do exist. No, I’m not talking about little green (or grey) beings from another planet, though recent videos from some Navy pilots are quite interesting. The aliens I’m talking about are you and me.

The Bible calls us aliens!

By aliens, God means that we are strangers, not citizens of this world. All who believe in Jesus have been made new in Christ. They have been expatriated from this sinful world to being citizens of God’s righteous kingdom.

It was the rescue mission of all rescue missions. Jesus went behind enemy lines to free us, not only putting His life on the line for us but giving His life for us so we could be brought into His kingdom and given all the rights and responsibilities of citizens.

God’s Kingdom Is Not Multicultural…Sort of
This change of citizenship has already happened for those who have faith in Jesus. It’s done, but now, in a new land, we sometimes suffer from culture shock. We must learn new ways, new language, and new customs. We must also unlearn the ways of the world. We do not bring our sinful culture into God’s kingdom.

In the U.S. there are some places where people of a specific background gather and live according to the ways of their old country, like Little China, Little Italy, etc. There is no Little Sin-land or Little Satan’s Dominion in God’s kingdom.

Sure, there are people from all nations and ethnicities in God’s Kingdoms and they may express the ways of God in unique ways, but no matter our background, we all are to live as God’s people, obeying His laws, loving one another, and honoring the King.

Culture Wars
The trouble is that we are used to living according to the ways of the sinful flesh and the devil is still trying to win the culture war of our lives. He wants us to live as “carnal Christians” and eventually to emigrate back to his kingdom. It’s a culture war for our soul.

So, God warns us and tells us not to give in. He reminds us that even though we still live in a sinful world, we aren’t of this world. We are of Him and His Kingdom. Rather than “blending in” and living according to the ways of the world, He wants us to be ambassadors. He wants us to represent the Kingdom of God in word and deed not only so we don’t decide to leave His kingdom, but so others who live in the world would see the light of Christ and hear the freeing Gospel and be brought into His kingdom.

So, let’s live as ambassadors.

Let’s show the love of Christ to others. Let’s be different, dress differently, talk differently, and live according to a different culture. Let’s treat the ways of this world like we are alien to them and want nothing to do with them. Let’s do it all around the people who aren’t in God’s kingdom so they can see and hear what they are missing. Then, let’s offer them asylum through the Gospel. Let’s show them how to become citizens and welcome them in.

Almighty God,

You are Lord of lords and King of kings. You have graciously welcomed us into Your kingdom. Help us to live as citizens of Your kingdom and help us to live as ambassadors to this world, sharing the Gospel with all those in the world.

Amen.

In Christ’s Service,

Pastor Kurt
