1 Peter 4:8-11 Bible Study

1 Peter 4:8 "Love Covers a Multitude of Sin"

Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. 9 Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. 10 As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: 11 whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Video Notes:

  • We are not just to avoid sin. We are to love and to do good.
  • Love covers a multitude of sins. This connected with the previous phrase, indicates this is referring to us loving our neighbor.
  • Surely our love doesn’t remove their sin before, God, but it can cover their sin in other ways (not gossiping, putting the best construction on things, forgiveness, preventing sin by not eliciting it)
  • So, we should cover our neighbor’s sin for the sake of our neighbor on earth like Jesus covers our sin with his love before God.
  • It continues to describe the ways we show love in word and deed.
  • All this brings glory to God.
