1 Peter 5:5 Bible Study

1 Peter 5:5 "Submit to Your Elders"

Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

Video Notes:

  • People who are younger should submit to those who are older.
  • The older one gets, typically, the wiser, more experienced, and more tempered they become.
  • This is speaking to the church and it implies the older person is also wise in Christ.
  • The elders still need to be humble servants as well. It’s a pattern.
  • This falls in line with others scriptures that tell us we should act humbly towards all other Christians. Philippians 2:3-4, Luke 14:8-11.
  • Jesus humbled Himself.
  • Once again, we humble ourselves and serve one another in obedience to God, not due to the worthiness of the other person.

(Note: One thing I meant to discuss, but which I think I left out, is that even as we submit to our elders, we should have wisdom. Our elders are not infallible. However, we should use great care to know when to not heed our elders.)
