• Yesterday, we read the sad and terrifying truth that our shameful acts of sin result in death.
• But now, a wonderful interjection and interruption from God. Because you have been set free (passive) and have become slaves to God (passive), you get fruit that leads to sanctification and, ultimately, eternal life.
• A changed tree leads to changed fruit.
• What a wonderful gift!
• We don’t get the death we deserve. We get the life we don’t deserve. Rather than spiraling into greater and greater lawlessness, debauchery, and destruction ending in death and hell, we are sanctified into greater holiness, peace, love, and wholeness ending in eternal life.
• This is all because Jesus took our end for us. He took our sin and he took the death and hell that came with our sin. In exchange He gives us His righteousness and the eternal life and heaven that come with it.
