The Other Six Daily Devotion - Genesis 6:8–9

"Found Favor"

“But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God.”

What city do you think is the worst city to live in?

The Other Six - Faith Lutheran Church, Wesley Chapel, FL - RiotingThe description of the world in Noah’s day is bleak.

Corruption has spread. Violence fills the earth. What God created good has become deeply broken. It’s the kind of picture that makes you wonder if anything can be salvaged at all.

And then, quietly, a different note appears:

“But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.”

This is not because the world was good or because Noah lived in ideal conditions. In the middle of a generation that had gone its own way, God’s grace rests on one man and his household.

That word “favor” is important.

It’s not something Noah earned. The text doesn’t say that Noah impressed God enough to deserve rescue. It says he found favor. Grace is something given, not achieved.

And yet, that grace begins to shape his life.

Noah is described as righteous and blameless among his generation. He walks with God, not perfectly, but faithfully. Grace doesn’t leave him unchanged. It draws him into a different way of living, even when everything around him moves in the opposite direction.

That’s what it looks like to live by faith.

You don’t control the world you live in. You don’t set the tone of your culture. Sometimes it feels like everything is moving further from God, not closer.

But God’s favor is not dependent on the direction of the world. It’s dependent on God and His love and grace.

  • He gives grace.
  • He calls people to walk with Him.
  • He sustains faith in unlikely places.

And like Noah, you may find yourself living differently—not because you’re trying to stand out, but because God’s grace has taken hold of you.

Daily Devotion - Faith Lutheran Church, Wesley Chapel, FL - Noah's ArkThere’s also something bigger happening here.

Through Noah, God preserves life. Yes, He preserves the human race, but it’s more than that. Through one family, He carries His promise forward. The story doesn’t end in judgment alone—it moves toward renewal.

And that points ahead again. God’s ultimate answer to a broken world is not just starting over. It is sending His Son into the middle of it, to carry His promise all the way through.

So when the world feels off course, remember this: God’s grace is still at work. It still finds people. It still holds them. It still leads them to walk with Him.

I pray God’s grace has taken hold of you and saved you through faith. I also pray that through you, God would save others as they see Him working in your life and hear the Good News of Jesus from you.

Let’s pray…

Heavenly Father,

In a world that often feels far from You, thank You that Your grace still finds us. Help me to walk with You in faith, even when it is not easy or common. Shape my life by Your favor, and keep me close to You day by day. And may I share Your saving work with others.

Amen.

As part of your devotion time, I encourage you to also pray for at least some of the following:

  • Your family
  • Your local church
  • Your pastor
  • Some of your fellow church members
  • The people on your B.L.E.S.S. list
  • Your country and her leaders
  • Your community

After praying for these people, you may want to finish your devotion time with the Lord’s Prayer…

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. They will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and every. Amen.

In Christ’s Service,

Pastor Kurt
