Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
Would you like to see physically see Jesus and talk with Him?
Most Christians would like to see Jesus while living this life on earth. Just imagine if you could spend the day with Him. What would you do?
You may have questions, but one thing we all tend to want is assurance of our salvation and a sureness of what we believe. For most of us, though, we won’t get to see Jesus physically in this life. He is present with us but unseen.
We must simply have faith.
This isn’t always easy. We love proof. We like to see and touch to know something is true. This struggle isn’t new. It reminds me of Thomas after the resurrection.
“Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, ‘Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.’” – John 20:24-25
Thomas wanted physical proof. He got his proof.
“Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you.’ Then he said to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.’ Thomas answered him, ‘My Lord and my God!’ Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” – John 20:26-29
We will probably not get our physical proof until Christ returns, yet we are blessed none-the-less. We have faith. We believe though we have not seen. The truth is that physical evidence is not what we really need. We need faith. With faith comes salvation. With faith comes assurance. With faith comes confidence and conviction.
This faith comes from God, the Spirit creates it through God’s Word.
The faith itself is a gift, the greatest blessing we could receive.
Though we have not seen, we are indeed blessed to believe and be assured of the salvation we have in Christ Jesus.
Let’s pray…
Heavenly Father,
I would love to see You in person, but help me to believe even when I cannot see. Give me faith until that day when I stand before You.
Amen.
