“I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.” – Psalm 16:8
What do you do when life throws you a curveball?
Life will throw all kinds of bumps and turns and obstacles in front of us. It will try to scare us, hurt us, and beat us down. It’s hard enough that, on our own, we may not make it…but we are not on our own.
God is With Us
This message is one of the most stated messages in all of the Bible. God is with us. He will not leave us nor forsake us.
This is a truth for all who believe.
This has real consequences. God is with us, actively working in us, and working all around us.
Recognizing this also changes how we perceive things.
Imagine walking through a jungle in the middle of the night, alone. You hear animals moving all around you, some may be dangerous. You feel hungry, but you know many plants are poisonous. You can’t see the terrain well to know if you’ll trip or fall. It’s a frightening situation.
Now, imaging you are walking through that same jungle, but you are with an expert survivalist and some well-armed, tough guys who are watching your back..and your front. They can find food and know the terrain well to guide you through. It’s not so scary, now, is it? It may even be a fun adventure.
That’s what the Psalmist is describing.
He knows God is beside him every step he takes. So, he keeps that knowledge always in his mind, setting the Lord always before him. Because of this, he will not be shaken. He will not be frightened. He will not lose his footing but will walk in the path of the Lord.
The Lord is beside you, too. So, keep that in your mind. Set the Lord always before you. He will not leave you nor forsake you and you have nothing to fear and no reason to panic.
Dear Jesus,
The world is an uncertain place and can be frightening. Thank You for being with me. Guide me. Protect me. Give me strength and comfort. Always remind me that You are with me.
Amen.

Pastor Kurt
