living in the promises of god

In my sermon this past week, we talked about several practical ways having Jesus in our lives affects our lives. I also mentioned that the practical effects aren’t just things that we do. It’s also about living in the promises of God.

I listed a few of those promises at the end of the sermon. However, I thought it would be good to send you those promises and a few more so you can read and ponder them as well as continue to remind yourself of these promises throughout your life.

20 Promises of God:

  • “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30

  • “Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.’” – Mark 10:27

  • “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33

  • “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” – Ephesians 6:1-3

  • “You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you…” – John 15:3-4

  • “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” – Matthew 6:33

  • But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. – Isaiah 40:31

  • Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,” says the LORD, who has compassion on you. – Isaiah 54:10

  • If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. – James 1:5

  • And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:19

  • Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it. – Proverbs 22:6

  • And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. – Romans 8:28

  • Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:6-7

  • So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. – Matthew 6:31-33

  • So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. – Romans 10:17

  • The LORD says, . . . “In the same way, my words leave my mouth, and they don’t come back without results. My words make the things happen that I want to happen. They succeed in doing what I send them to do.” – Isaiah 55:11

  • Jesus promised, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened unto you.” – Matthew 7:7

  • I will build My church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” – Matthew 16:18

  • For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” – Matthew 18:20

  • So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. – Ephesians 4:11-13
