Quick! Hide!

Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the Lord. Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the Lord.” – Jeremiah 23:24

What are you hiding from the Lord?

I’ll bet I can guess. More on that in a second.

The other day, I went to check on my 3-year-old son while he was supposed to be taking a nap. I peeked my head in the door and saw him playing with some of his stuffed animals having a grand, old time. After a few seconds, he looked up and saw me. He immediately threw himself down on the bed and covered his head with a stuffed animal and pretended to sleep.

My son’s ruse didn’t work. Sometimes I’m smarter than a 3-year-old.

Have you ever tried to hide something from God? Are you hiding something right now? I told you at the start of this devotion that I could guess what it is. Are you ready?

Nothing.

That may be a cheap answer, but it’s true. You aren’t hiding anything from God because He can see everything.

On the one hand, we may not like this. There may be some things we would rather keep from God. Of course, that’s our sinful nature. Like Adam and Eve, we try to hide our sinfulness.

On the other hand, this is absolutely great news.

What can happen to us that God won’t see? Who can harm us without God knowing? What struggle can we face of which God is not aware? None! He knows when we hurt and suffer and can send His angels to guard over us or fill us with the Comfort of the Holy Spirit.

When we sin, this is even greater news! We don’t need to try to hide anything because we can’t. He already knows. So, why not confess and be forgiven?

If you are hiding something, go ahead and confess it. God already knows. If you feel like God doesn’t know the suffering you are going through, He sees it and is suffering with you. Give it to Him.

Heavenly Father,

I am grateful that You know and and see all. I know I can come to You freely with my needs and my confessions. Thank you.

Amen.

In Christ’s Service,

Pastor Kurt
