Romans Bible Study

Romans 6:19 "Sin Leads to More Sin, Righteousness to Sanctification."

I am speaking in human terms, because of your natural limitations. For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification.

Video Notes:

  • Present is in two forms. First, to sin, it was an indicative, meaning it was a matter of fact. The second, to righteousness, is an imperative (command) indicating you now have a choice.
  • Previously, we presented ourselves for lawlessness (sinfulness) and we’re engrossed in a sinful mindset. This led to all kinds of sinful deeds.
  • Now, we can present ourselves for righteousness and have our minds transformed (Romans 12) to be more Christ-like which leads to sanctification, a more holy life.
  • The opposing nature of the phrases indicates that what once happened towards sin can now happen towards sanctification. Where our sinful mindset led to more and more sinful acts, now our Christ-centered mindset leads to more and more holy and righteous works.
  • This is a fruit. (Phil 2:14, Gal 5:22-23)
