Standing Up For You

Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.” – Hebrews 7:25

Can you think of a time when someone stood up for you?

Johnny walked into the store and asked for an application. He sat down and began filling it out. When he came to the part asking for references, he put his parents and his science teacher, Mr Morris. He couldn’t think of anyone else to add.

A few days later, he was called in for an interview. He was nervous and excited. This would be his first job, a step towards independence…and a way to afford a new X-box. During the interview, the manager told him He’d talked to his parents but was particularly impressed by the conversation he had with Johnny’s science teacher who had some great things to say about Johnny. He also said Mr. Morris had been one of his favorite teachers when he was in high school.

He gave Johnny the job.

After a few days of training, Johnny got to work. He was working the cash register at the store. He finished his day and clocked out. The next day he came in and his manager was waiting for him.

“Johnny, I went through the receipts and counted the money from your register last night. You were $400 short. Is there something you want to tell me?”

Johnny said he didn’t know why there was money missing.

“Isn’t that about what an X-box costs? Johnny, are you sure you don’t know what happened to the money?”

Johnny insisted he didn’t take the money, but his manager said he had to let Johnny go.

Johnny was heartbroken. He really hadn’t taken the money. He didn’t know what had happened.

The next day, Johnny was still down about losing his job as he went through his day at school. His science teacher noticed something was wrong and asked him about it. Johnny explained what had happened.

The next day Johnny got a call from the manager at the store. He asked him to come into the store. Johnny went by the store and his manager told him,

“Johnny, I don’t know what happened to the $400 the other day and normally I wouldn’t have given a second thought to having fired you, but yesterday Mr. Morris came by the store. He asked me to reconsider. He said you were a hard worker and he didn’t believe that you stole the money. Then, he took $400 out of his wallet to cover the loss.

I greatly respect Mr. Morris and he sure thinks a lot of you. So, I’m going to give you another chance.”

Johnny was blessed to have someone who cared for him and was willing to fight for him.

Jesus is your Mr. Morris and so much more. Hebrews 7:25 tells us that Jesus is always interceding for us. He intercedes for us out of His great love for us. He even intercedes for us when we’ve done something wrong. He paid the cost of our wrongdoing on the cross and continues to stand for us before the Father, advocating for us, for our needs, for our forgiveness.

Jesus is interceding for you, right now.

So, you can go before the Father without fear because Jesus stands with you and stands for you. Let’s pray.

Dear Jesus,

You gave everything so that I, a sinner, could be forgiven and made alive through Your Spirit. Thank You for saving me. Thank You for continuing to intercede for me. I know that I can stand with confidence before the throne of God because of You.

Amen.

In Christ’s Service,
