Unified in Christ

May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” – Romans 15:5-6

What is the church supposed to look like?

I’m not speaking of a building. I’m talking about the people. After all, the church is the people. As the Apostle Paul is concluding his letter to the Romans, he prays for their unity. He knows that the unity of the church can only come from God.

God, who sustains our faith and gives us strength even in the face of great trials can also change our hearts and minds to be more like Jesus. Jesus had an attitude of love and grace. He proclaimed the Word of God to the glory of the Father. He continues to do so in His body, the Church.

It reminds me of Romans 12.

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” – Romans 12:2

As we are transformed by the renewing of our minds to the attitude of Christ we are unified in Him. We can show that same attitude of love towards one another. We can proclaim that same Word of God to each other and the world to the Glory of God.

We may have different languages and customs, but when we proclaim the same Gospel we speak with one voice and what we speak can change lives forever.

Today, and every day, let us pray along with Paul for each other.

Heavenly Father,

You are the One who gives endurance and encouragement. Give the people of Your church the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice we may glorify You, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Amen

In Christ’s Service,

Pastor Kurt
