This past Saturday, the youth (and a few of us older youth) talked about God our creator, and then did an escape room. It was great!
Who Is God?
We arrived at Imagine Escape Rooms around 11:30am (well, most of us) and went into a side room. There we talked about who God is. The youth had some great responses about how God is the creator, an authority, a friend, and our savior. We talked a little about Colossians 1:15-17 and how God didn’t just create us and walk away, but continues to sustain us and all creation and how He knows every part of us and loves us more than we can imagine.
“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” – Colossians 1:15-17
Let The Challenge Begin!!
Next, we split into two teams. The classic men against women…Team Nar against team Fire-Breathing Marshmallow. The women demanded the harder escape room. The men didn’t mind.
Team Fire-Breathing Marshmallows
Team Nar
It was a harrowing challenge and both teams barely made it out with their lives (that might be a slight exaggeration). Both teams did make it out, though, with only seconds remaining.
Team Nar – Kadon somehow unlocked one lock without any clues. The police called later about a bank robbery, but we’re pretty sure he wasn’t involved. Gunnar showed his fishing prowess by catching several toy sea creatures with a magnet. Nick and Jakob did some brilliant deciphering and Matthew and Jacob were awesome at finding clues and working the computer. Pastor Kurt directed the group from the side (I think he took a nap at one point).
Team Fire-Breathing Marshmallow – Tanisha and Kaylee used their size advantage to crawl under a hatch and they weren’t stumped by the tree puzzle. Gabby, Nicole and Ryleigh brought it all together at the end to escape just in time. Kelsey was an amazing cheerleader throughout. Ginger D. led the team with the cool, calm demeanor of an experienced leader and, unlike Pastor Kurt, didn’t sleep.
Meanwhile, Terrell and Ginger T. watched in the control room like the game masters of the Hunger Games. I’m pretty sure Terrell was heard saying, “May the odds be ever in your favor.” as he selected tributes…I mean divided up the teams.
All in all we had a great time and finished up with some great food at Chic-Fil-A.
Our next event is a trip to Sand Key Beach on the afternoon of April 11. Watch for more details coming soon.
Till next time,
Terrell and Pastor Kurt
