Invocation
Confession and Forgiveness:
P: As we gather, today, let us cleanse our hearts and our consciences by confessing our sin to God.
(a time of silence to reflect and personally confess our sins)
P: Let us confess our sins together to the Lord.
C: Heavenly Father, we confess that we are sinful and unclean. We have sinned against you and against our neighbor in our thoughts, words, and actions. We are truly sorry for our sins and sincerely repent of them. We ask for Your mercy. For the sake of Jesus Christ’s bitter suffering and death, please forgive us and renew us that we may walk in Your Spirit to the glory of Your holy name. Amen.
P: The Lord has heard your confession. Therefore, as a called and ordained servant of the Lord, in the stead and by the command of my Lord, Jesus Christ, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen.
Song of Praise and Thanksgiving: Take My Life And Let It Be
Verse 1:
Take my life and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee;
Take my moments and my days. Let them flow in ceaseless praise.
Verse 2:
Take my hands and let them move at the impulse of Thy love;
Take my feet and let them be swift and beautiful for Thee.
Verse 3:
Take my voice and let me sing always, only for my King;
Take my lips and let them be filled with messages from Thee.
Verse 5:
Take my will and make it Thine. It shall be no longer mine;
Take my heart, it is Thine own. It shall be Thy royal throne.
Verse 6:
Take my love, my Lord, I pour at Thy feet its treasure store;
Take myself, and I will be ever, only, all for Thee.

Old Testament Reading – Isaiah 58:6–10
“Is not this the fast that I choose:
to loose the bonds of wickedness,
to undo the straps of the yoke,
to let the oppressed go free,
and to break every yoke?
Is it not to share your bread with the hungry
and bring the homeless poor into your house;
when you see the naked, to cover him,
and not to hide yourself from your own flesh?
Then shall your light break forth like the dawn,
and your healing shall spring up speedily;
your righteousness shall go before you;
the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.
Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer;
you shall cry, and he will say, ‘Here I am.’
If you take away the yoke from your midst,
the pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness,
if you pour yourself out for the hungry
and satisfy the desire of the afflicted,
then shall your light rise in the darkness
and your gloom be as the noonday.“Is not this the fast that I choose:

to let the oppressed go free,

Epistle Reading – Galatians 5:13–14
For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.
Gospel Reading – John 13:6–17, 34-35
He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, do you wash my feet?” Jesus answered him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.” Peter said to him, “You shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.” Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!” Jesus said to him, “The one who has bathed does not need to wash, except for his feet, but is completely clean. And you are clean, but not every one of you.” For he knew who was to betray him; that was why he said, “Not all of you are clean.”
When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them, “Do you understand what I have done to you? You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them…
…A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
P: This is the Gospel of the Lord.
C: Praise be to You, O Christ.
Sermon Song: I Will Follow
Where You go, I’ll go. Where You stay, I’ll stay.
When You move, I’ll move. I will follow…
All Your ways are good. All Your ways are sure.
I will trust in You alone.
Higher than my sight, high above my life, I will trust in You alone.
Chorus:
Where You go, I’ll go. Where You stay, I’ll stay.
When You move, I’ll move. I will follow You.
Who You love, I’ll love. How You serve I’ll serve.
If this life I lose, I will follow You, Yeah. I will follow You.
Light unto the world, light unto my life, I will live for You alone.
You’re the one I seek knowing I will find,
All I need in You alone, in You alone.
(Chorus)
Bridge:
In You there’s life everlasting.
In You there’s freedom for my soul.
In You there’s joy, unending joy, and I will follow.
Chorus:
Where You go, I’ll go. Where You stay, I’ll stay.
When You move, I’ll move. I will follow You.
Who You love, I’ll love. How You serve I’ll serve.
If this life I lose, I will follow You, Yeah. I will follow You. © 2010 SHOUT! Publishing, Vamos Publishing, and So Essential Tunes
Sermon – “What Does It Look Like to Serve?”
Prayers
Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Benediction
