Blessed are Those Who Have Not Seen, Yet Believe

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” – Hebrews 11:1

Would you like to see physically see Jesus and talk with Him?

Most Christians would probably like to see Jesus while living this life on earth, spend the day with Him, and ask Him questions. For most of us, though, that isn’t going to happen. He is present with us but unseen.

We must simply have faith.

This isn’t always easy. We love proof. We like to see and touch to know something is true. This struggle isn’t new. It reminds me of Thomas after the resurrection.

Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, ‘Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.’” – John 20:24-25

Thomas wanted physical proof. He got his proof.

Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you.’ Then he said to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.’ Thomas answered him, ‘My Lord and my God!’ Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” – John 20:26-29

We will probably not get our proof until Christ returns, yet we are blessed none-the-less. We have faith. We believe though we have not seen. With faith comes salvation. With faith comes assurance. With faith comes confidence.

This faith comes from God, the Spirit creates it through the Word. The faith itself is a gift, the greatest gift we could receive.

Dear Jesus,

I would love to see You in person, but help me to believe even when I cannot see. Give me faith until that day when I stand before You.

Amen.

In Christ’s Service,

Pastor Kurt
