For us, this is a day of waiting and a day of hope. It’s kind of like watching a really good movie you’ve seen before at that point where everything seems to be going wrong and the bad guy looks like he’s going to win, but you know the hero is about to burst in and save the day.
The Friday before Easter Sunday, on which the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ is commemorated in the Christian Church. It is traditionally a day of fasting and penance.

Truly God works all things for the good of those who love Him. He even worked our darkest hour for our good.

For a long time I viewed the phrase, “Not my will, but Thine be done” as a surrender to the authority of God. It’s as though I would tell God, “This is what I want. This is what needs to be done, but I guess it’s Your call. (sigh) So, do what You want.” Then I read something in a book that changed my view on this phrase forever.

Here we are on Holy Tuesday, the Tuesday of Holy Week leading up to Jesus’ death and resurrection. On the Monday after Jesus entered Jerusalem as a king on a donkey (Palm Sunday), Jesus goes to the temple and is not pleased. He comes into the outer courts, the only place where a foreigner could go in the temple, and the place resembles a marketplace more than a temple, more than a place of prayer and worship.

God loves us. It is His love which led Jesus to the cross. It is His love which forgives our sins and adopts us as sons and daughters. We respond to His great love by worshiping Him alone.
