At this point in the Lord’s prayer, we have prayed for God’s will to be done. However, if we are honest, we often resist God’s will. We even go directly against His will as He revealed it to us in His commands. We call this sin. In the Lord’s Prayer, sometimes we use the word, “sins,” sometimes, “trespasses,” and sometimes, “debts.” It’s all the same. It’s referring to when we rebel against God and disobey.
Today is July 4th. It’s a day we celebrate the independence of the United States. We celebrate the rights and freedoms we have living in this country. It is certainly something to celebrate and be thankful for.

Go to God with both the big and small things. You aren’t annoying Him. He wants you to. Then have peace, knowing God is taking care of it. Enjoy it with a thankful heart and a love for your neighbor.

When we pray for God’s will to be done we do so because we realize His will is good and right. It is best. We seek His will because we see we don’t know enough and sin has corrupted our wisdom.
These days we tend to talk about Jesus as savior in the church. This is good, of course, as He died to save us from our sins. However, when Jesus was physically here with us, teaching and preaching, His most common message was one of Lordship.
God is holy. There is none like Him. In this petition of the Lord’s Prayer, we are certainly testifying to the holiness of God, but we are doing more than that, too. We are asking God’s name to be kept holy among us.
