1 Peter 2:9-10 “A New Identity and New Purpose”
1 Peter 2:9-10 "A New Identity and New Purpose"
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
Video Notes:
- While you as an individual possess these 4 identities, they are primarily a corporate (group) identity for all Christians together.
- A chose race – Chosen by God
- A royal priesthood – the priesthood of all believers
- A holy nation – Citizens of heaven
- A people for God’s own possession – God desires to be with you.
- Our purpose is to proclaim God’s great works (Great Commission).
- Hosea, No Mercy, and Not My People.
- Jews? Gentiles? Both?
