Confession and Forgiveness:
P: As we gather, today, let us cleanse our hearts and our consciences by confessing our sin to God.
(Time of silence for reflection and confession)
C: Heavenly Father, we confess that we are sinful and unclean. We have sinned against you and against our neighbor in our thoughts, words, and actions. We are truly sorry for our sins and sincerely repent of them. We ask for Your mercy. For the sake of Jesus Christ’s bitter suffering and death, please forgive us and renew us that we may walk in Your Spirit to the glory of Your holy name.
P: The Lord has heard your confession. Therefore, as a called and ordained servant of the Lord, in the stead and by the command of my Lord, Jesus Christ, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen

Angels From The Realms of Glory (Emmanuel)
Angels from the realms of glory Wing your flight o’er all the earth
You who sang creation’s story Now proclaim Messiah’s birth
Come and worship Come and worship
Worship Christ the newborn King
Shepherds in the field abiding Watching o’er your flocks by night
God with man is now residing Yonder shines the infant light
Come and worship, Come and worship
Worship Christ the newborn King
O Little Town of Bethlehem
O little town of Bethlehem how still we see thee lie
Above the dark and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by
Yet in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting light
The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight
How silently, how silently, The wondrous gift is given;
So God imparts to human hearts The blessings of His Heaven.
No ear may hear His coming, But in this world of sin,
Where meek souls will receive Him still, The dear Christ enters in.
O holy child of Bethlehem, descend on us we pray;
Cast out our sin and enter in be born in us today.
We hear the Christmas angels, their great glad tidings tell,
O come to us, abide with us, our lord, Emanuel.
Epistle Reading: Romans 16:25-27
Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages but has now been disclosed and through the prophetic writings has been made known to all nations, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith—to the only wise God be glory forevermore through Jesus Christ! Amen.
Gospel Reading: Luke 1:26–38
In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin’s name was Mary. And he came to her and said, “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!” But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be. And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”
And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?” And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God. And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. For nothing will be impossible with God.” And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.
Sermon Hymn: He Shall Reign Forevermore
In the bleak mid-winter, all creation groans
For a world in darkness, frozen like a stone
Light is breaking, in a stable for a throne
Chorus:
And He shall reign forevermore, forevermore
And He shall reign forevermore, forevermore
Unto us a child is born, The King of kings and Lord of lords
And He shall reign forevermore, forevermore
If I were a wise man, I would travel far
And if I were a shepherd, I would do my part
But poor as I am, I will give to Him my heart
Chorus:
And He shall reign forevermore, forevermore
And He shall reign forevermore, forevermore
Unto us a child is born, The King of kings and Lord of lords
And He shall reign forevermore, forevermore
Here within a manger lies The One who made the starry skies
This baby born for sacrifice, Christ, the Messiah
Into our hopes, into our fears, The Savior of the world appears
The promise of eternal years, Christ, the Messiah
Chorus 2:
He shall reign forevermore, forevermore
He shall reign forevermore, forevermore
He shall reign forevermore, forevermore
And He shall reign forevermore, forevermore
Unto us a child is born, The King of kings and Lord of lords
And He shall reign forevermore, forevermore
Sermon – The Lord Comes…As King
2 Samuel 7:1-11, 16
Now when the king lived in his house and the Lord had given him rest from all his surrounding enemies, the king said to Nathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells in a tent.” And Nathan said to the king, “Go, do all that is in your heart, for the Lord is with you.”
But that same night the word of the Lord came to Nathan, “Go and tell my servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord: Would you build me a house to dwell in? I have not lived in a house since the day I brought up the people of Israel from Egypt to this day, but I have been moving about in a tent for my dwelling. In all places where I have moved with all the people of Israel, did I speak a word with any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel, saying, “Why have you not built me a house of cedar?”’ Now, therefore, thus you shall say to my servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, that you should be prince over my people Israel. And I have been with you wherever you went and have cut off all your enemies from before you. And I will make for you a great name, like the name of the great ones of the earth. And I will appoint a place for my people Israel and will plant them, so that they may dwell in their own place and be disturbed no more. And violent men shall afflict them no more, as formerly, from the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel. And I will give you rest from all your enemies. Moreover, the Lord declares to you that the Lord will make you a house…
…And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever.’”
Prayers
Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God
the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen

Closing Song: Emmanuel (Hollowed Manger Ground)
What hope we hold this starlit night
a King is born in Bethlehem
Our journey long, we seek the light
that leads to the hallowed manger ground
What fear we felt in the silent age
four hundred years can he be found
But broken by a baby’s cry
rejoice in the hallowed manger ground
Chorus:
Emanuel, Emanuel
God incarnate here to dwell
Emanuel, Emanuel
Praise His name Emanuel
The son of God Here, born to bleed
A crown of thorns Would pierce His brow
And we beheld this offering
Exalted now, the King of kings
Praise God For the hallowed manger ground
Chorus
Praise His name Emanuel

Confession and Forgiveness:
P: Our Heavenly Father asks us to come into His presence.
C: But we are sinful and unworthy.
P: Yes, all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, but Jesus Christ died on the cross that
we may be forgiven and washed clean of all our sins by His blood spilled on the cross.
C: Lord, if You wash us, we will certainly be clean and pure.
P: We take a moment to bow before the His cross and silently reflect on our lives and confess our sins.
(Time of silence for reflection and confession)
P: Let us confess, together, our sins to God our Father.
C: Heavenly Father, we confess that we are sinners. We have sinned against you and our neighbors. We have not loved you with our whole heart and we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We have not lived out our faith out in our community. We justly deserve Your punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen.
P: Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake, forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I, therefore, forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Song of Praise and Thanksgiving: What A Glorious Night
The shepherds came to, see the baby, stood by his mother’s side
Here laid the Savior, inside a manger
O what a glorious night, O what a glorious night
Chorus:
I hear the angels singing, hallelujah
Let the Earth receive her King
I know that love has come, sing it out
Jesus Christ is born, Jesus Christ is born
The shepherds wonder, they couldn’t hide it,
Told everyone in sight
All were amazed when they heard how God came
Down on this glorious night
God came down on this glorious night
Chorus
Glorious, glorious, What a glorious night!
Glorious, glorious, What a glorious night!
Chorus:
I hear the angels singing, hallelujah
Let the Earth receive her King
I know that love has come, sing it out
Jesus Christ is born, Jesus Christ is born
All is calm now, all is quiet, a star shining in the sky
Below in Bethlehem, the King is sleeping
Oh what a glorious night Oh what a glorious night
Epistle Reading – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-24
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies, but test everything; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil. Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.
Gospel Reading – John 1:6–8, 19–28
There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light but came to bear witness about the light…
…And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?” He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, “I am not the Christ.” And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.” So they said to him, “Who are you? We need to give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?” He said, “I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as the prophet Isaiah said.”
(Now they had been sent from the Pharisees.) They asked him, “Then why are you baptizing, if you are neither the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?” John answered them, “I baptize with water, but among you stands one you do not know, even he who comes after me, the strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.” These things took place in Bethany across the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

Sermon Hymn – He Has Come For Us (God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen)
God rest ye merry gentlemen let nothing you dismay
Remember Christ our Savior was born on Christmas day
To save us all from Satan’s power when we were gone astray
Oh tidings of comfort and joy, comfort and joy
Oh tidings of comfort and joy
Chorus:
He has come for us, this Jesus
He’s the hope for all mankind
He has come for us, the Messiah
Born to give us life (He is born to give us life)
From God our heavenly Father, a blessed angel came
And unto certain shepherds brought tidings of the same
How that in Bethlehem was born the Son of God by name
Oh tidings of comfort and joy, comfort and joy
Oh tidings of comfort and joy

Sermon – “The Lord Comes…As Priest”
Isaiah 61:1-4, 8-11
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor;
he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor,
and the day of vengeance of our God;
to comfort all who mourn;
to grant to those who mourn in Zion—
to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes,
the oil of gladness instead of mourning,
the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit;
that they may be called oaks of righteousness,
the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.
They shall build up the ancient ruins;
they shall raise up the former devastations;
they shall repair the ruined cities,
the devastations of many generations…
…For I the Lord love justice;
I hate robbery and wrong;
I will faithfully give them their recompense,
and I will make an everlasting covenant with them.
Their offspring shall be known among the nations,
and their descendants in the midst of the peoples;
all who see them shall acknowledge them,
that they are an offspring the Lord has blessed.
I will greatly rejoice in the Lord;
my soul shall exult in my God,
for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation;
he has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
as a bridegroom decks himself like a priest with a beautiful headdress,
and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
For as the earth brings forth its sprouts,
and as a garden causes what is sown in it to sprout up,
so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise
to sprout up before all the nations.

Welcome
Opening Song: Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus
Come thou long-expected Jesus, Born to set thy people free
From our fears and sins release us; let us find our rest in thee.
Israel’s strength and consolation, Hope of all the earth thou art,
Dear desire of ev’ry nation, joy of every longing heart.
Come to earth to taste our sadness, He whose glories knew no end;
by His life He brings us gladness, Our redeemer, Shepherd, Friend.
Leaving riches without number, born within a cattle stall;
This the ever – lasting wonder, Christ was born the Lord of all!
Born thy people to deliver, Born a child and yet a king
born to reign in us forever, Now thy gracious kingdom bring.
By thine own eternal spirit; rule in all our hearts alone
By thine all sufficient merit, Raise us to thy glorious throne

Confession and Forgiveness:
P: We have come here today to worship the Lord. In worship we hear the Word of God, we receive God’s blessings, and respond with thanks and praise. We begin by seeking God’s blessing of forgiveness. He has promised to remove the guilt and shame of our sin through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross.
P: Let us confess our sins to the Lord.
(a time of silence to reflect and personally confess our sins)
P: Heavenly Father,
C: Heavenly Father,
P: I have done things that were wrong.
C: I have done things that were wrong.
P: I have been mean to others.
C: I have been mean to others.
P: I have not obeyed my parents.
C: I have not obeyed my parents
P: I have not obeyed You, God.
C: I have not obeyed You, God.
P: But I am very sorry.
C: But I am very sorry.
P: Please forgive me.
C: Please forgive me.
P: I love You very much.
C: I love You very much.
P: And I know You love me, too.
C: And I know You love me, too.
P: God has heard your apology. He loves you very much. God has told us that when we believe and trust in Him, He makes us His children. As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our sins from us. He has told me to tell you that you are forgiven. So, as His servant, I forgive you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen.
Song: Messiah
Long awaited, precious promise.
Son of God and son of man
Heaven’s glory in a manger.
Has come to us in Bethlehem. Oh – Oh
Chorus:
Messiah, Messiah. Baby born to save us all
Messiah, Messiah. On our knees we fall
All we longed for, all we needed,
Shining in this child’s eyes
Hope forever, death defeated.
Because of this one holy night (Chorus)
O come let us adore him, O come let us adore him
O come let us adore him, Christ, the Lord
Long awaited, precious promise, Coming back again
Chorus 2:
Messiah, Messiah. Baby born to save us all
Messiah, Messiah. On our knees we fall
On our knees we fall
First Reading – Mark 1:1–3
The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. As it is written in Isaiah the prophet,
“Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way, the voice of one crying in the wilderness:
‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight,’”
Children’s Message “What Is a Prophet”
Second Song: This Is the Day
This is the day (This is the day)
That the Lord hath made (That the Lord hath made)
Let us rejoice (Let us rejoice)
And be glad in it. (And be glad in it.)
This is the day that the Lord hath made
Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
This is the day (This is the day)
That the Lord hath made
Second Reading – Mark 1:4-8
John appeared, baptizing in the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. And all the country of Judea and all Jerusalem were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. Now John was clothed with camel’s hair and wore a leather belt around his waist and ate locusts and wild honey. And he preached, saying, “After me comes he who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. I have baptized you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
Children’s Message “Prepare the Way!”
Children’s Song: Jesus Loves Me
Jesus loves me this I know, For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong, They are weak, but He is strong.
Chorus:
Yes, Jesus loves me, Yes, Jesus loves me,
Yes, Jesus loves me, The Bible tells me so.
Jesus loves me, He who died. Heaven’s gates to open wide.
He will wash away my sin, Let His little child come in. (Chorus)
Sermon Hymn: What Child Is This
What child is this, who, laid to rest, On Mary’s lap is sleeping?
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet While shepherds watch are keeping?
This, this is Christ the king, Whom shepherds guard and angels sing;
Haste, haste to bring him laud, The babe, the son of Mary!
Why lies he in such mean estate Where ox and lamb are feeding?
Good Christian, fear; for sinners here The silent Word is pleading.
Nails, spear shall pierce him through, The cross be borne for me, for you;
Hail, hail the Word made flesh, The babe, the son of Mary!
Sermon – “The Lord Comes…As Prophet”
Isaiah 40:1-11
Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.
Speak tenderly to Jerusalem,
and cry to her
that her warfare is ended,
that her iniquity is pardoned,
that she has received from the Lord’s hand
double for all her sins.
A voice cries:
“In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord;
make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
Every valley shall be lifted up,
and every mountain and hill be made low;
the uneven ground shall become level,
and the rough places a plain.
And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed,
and all flesh shall see it together,
for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
A voice says, “Cry!”
And I said, “What shall I cry?”
All flesh is grass,
and all its beauty is like the flower of the field.
The grass withers, the flower fades
when the breath of the Lord blows on it;
surely the people are grass.
The grass withers, the flower fades,
but the word of our God will stand forever.
Go on up to a high mountain,
O Zion, herald of good news;
lift up your voice with strength,
O Jerusalem, herald of good news;
lift it up, fear not;
say to the cities of Judah,
“Behold your God!”
Behold, the Lord God comes with might,
and his arm rules for him;
behold, his reward is with him,
and his recompense before him.
He will tend his flock like a shepherd;
he will gather the lambs in his arms;
he will carry them in his bosom,
and gently lead those that are with young.

P: Come into the presence of the Lord our God.
C: Have mercy, O Lord. If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand?

Song of Praise and Thanksgiving: The Wonderful Cross
When I survey the wondrous cross,
On which the prince of glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.
Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,
Save in the death of Christ my God.
All the vain things that charm me most,
I sacrifice them to His blood
Chorus:
O the wonderful cross, O the wonderful cross
Bids me come and die and find that I may truly live.
O the wonderful cross, O the wonderful cross
All who gather here By grace draw near and bless your name.
See from His head, His hands, His feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down.
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown
First Reading – 1 Chronicles 16:23-26
Prayer: Thanksgiving for Forgiveness and Salvation
Beautiful Savior, King of creation, Son of God and Son of man.
Truly I’d love Thee, Truly I’d serve Thee
Light of my soul, my joy, my crown.
Fair are the meadows. Fair is the woodlands
Robed in the flow’rs of blooming spring
Jesus is fairer. Jesus is purer.
He makes our sorrowing spirit sing
Beautiful Savior, Lord of the nations, Son of God and Son of man.
Glory and honor, praise adoration,
Now and forever more be Thine!
Prayer: Thanksgiving for Freedom, America, etc.
Song – This Is My Father’s World
This is my Father’s world, and to my listening ears
All nature sings, and round me rings the music of the spheres.
This is my Father’s world: I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas;
His hand the wonders wrought.
This is my Father’s world. O let me ne’er forget
That though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the ruler yet.
This is my Father’s world: why should my heart be sad?
The Lord is King; let the heavens ring!
God reigns; let the earth be glad!
This is my Father’s world: why should my heart be sad?
The Lord is King; let the heavens ring!
God reigns; let the earth be glad!
The Lord is King; let the heavens ring!
God reigns; let the earth be glad!
Prayer: Thanksgiving for Health and Wellbeing
Come Thou Fount of every blessing, Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Steams of mercy, never ceasing, Call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet, Sung by flaming tongues above;
Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it, Mount of Thy redeeming love.
Oh, to grace how great to debtor, Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter, Bind my wand’ring heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, Lord, take and seal it, Seal it for Thy courts above.
Fourth Reading – Psalm 145:15-19
Prayer: Thanksgiving for Provision, Home, Food, Work, etc.
Verse:
Give thanks with a grateful heart. Give thanks to the holy one
Give thanks because he’s given Jesus Christ, His son.
(Repeat Verse)
Chorus:
And now let the weak say I am strong. Let the poor say I am rich.
Because of what the Lord has done for us
(Repeat Chorus)
Give thanks. Give thanks. We give thanks.

How great thou art, how great thou art
Then sings my soul, my savior God to thee,
How great thou art, how great thou art
When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,

Thanksgiving Prayers and Videos
Thanksgiving Prayers and Videos
This week is Thanksgiving. Because of this, we are doing a few things differently for our Thursday prayers, including having “Thank You, God” videos and changing the time of the prayers.
“Thank You, God” Videos:
We thought it would be great if we included a montage of people thanking God. I would like to ask you, yes you, to create a short thanking God for whatever you would like. Then send me that video and I will include it in the Thanksgiving Prayer Video. The videos need to submitted by noon on Wednesday. Send your video to Pastor Kurt’s email, which is Kurt at the church’s website address.
The Time of the Prayers:
Since our time of prayer would normally be right when a lot of people will be celebrating Thanksgiving, we are simply going to post the video of the prayers on Thursday morning instead of having a live-stream in the evening. You can start the video and join the prayers whenever you would like.
Prayer Requests:
We will also still be having our normal prayers which will include your prayer requests. Please submit your prayer requests through our Contact Us form by noon on Wednesday.
Thank you and God bless!
In Christ’s Service,
Pastor Kurt

Worship Service for November 22, 2020 at 11 AM
Welcome
Invocation
Confession and Forgiveness:
P: Come into the presence of the Lord our God.
C: Have mercy, O Lord. If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand?
P: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
C: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
(a time of silence to reflect and personally confess our sins)
P: I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin. Let us confess our sin before the Lord.
C: Heavenly Father, we confess that we are sinners. We have sinned against you and our neighbors. We have not loved you with our whole heart and we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen.
P: The Lord is gracious and merciful. He promises to forgive our sins. Therefore, upon this, your confession, as a called and ordained servant of the Lord, in the stead and by the command of my Lord, Jesus Christ, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen.
Song of Praise and Thanksgiving: The Wonderful Cross
When I survey the wondrous cross,
On which the prince of glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.
Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,
Save in the death of Christ my God.
All the vain things that charm me most,
I sacrifice them to His blood
Chorus:
O the wonderful cross, O the wonderful cross
Bids me come and die and find that I may truly live.
O the wonderful cross, O the wonderful cross
All who gather here By grace draw near and bless your name.
See from His head, His hands, His feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down.
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown
(Chorus)
First Reading – 1 Chronicles 16:23-26
Sing to the Lord, all the earth! Tell of his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples! For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols, but the Lord made the heavens.
Prayer: Thanksgiving for Forgiveness and Salvation
Song – Beautiful Savior
Beautiful Savior, King of creation, Son of God and Son of man.
Truly I’d love Thee, Truly I’d serve Thee
Light of my soul, my joy, my crown.
Fair are the meadows. Fair is the woodlands
Robed in the flow’rs of blooming spring
Jesus is fairer. Jesus is purer.
He makes our sorrowing spirit sing
Beautiful Savior, Lord of the nations, Son of God and Son of man.
Glory and honor, praise adoration,
Now and forever more be Thine!
Second Reading – Luke 4:18-19
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
1 Peter 2:16-17
Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.
Prayer: Thanksgiving for Freedom, America, etc.
Song – This Is My Father’s World
This is my Father’s world, and to my listening ears
All nature sings, and round me rings the music of the spheres.
This is my Father’s world: I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas;
Third Reading – Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Prayer: Thanksgiving for Health and Wellbeing
Song – Come Thou Fount
Come Thou Fount of every blessing, Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Steams of mercy, never ceasing, Call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet, Sung by flaming tongues above;
Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it, Mount of Thy redeeming love.
Oh, to grace how great to debtor, Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter, Bind my wand’ring heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, Lord, take and seal it, Seal it for Thy courts above.
Fourth Reading – Psalm 145:15-19
The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food in due season. You open your hand; you satisfy the desire of every living thing. The Lord is righteous in all his ways and kind in all his works. The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desire of those who fear him; he also hears their cry and saves them.
Prayer: Thanksgiving for Provision, Home, Food, Work, etc.
Song – Give Thanks
Verse:
Give thanks with a grateful heart. Give thanks to the holy one
Give thanks because he’s given Jesus Christ, His son.
(Repeat Verse)
Chorus:
And now let the weak say I am strong. Let the poor say I am rich.
Because of what the Lord has done for us
(Repeat Chorus)
Give thanks. Give thanks. We give thanks.
Fifth Reading – Ecclesiastes 4:9-11
Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone?
Prayer: Thanksgiving for Family and Friends
Song – God Is So Good
God is so good. God is so good.
God is so good. He’s so good to me.
He answers prayer. He answers prayer.
He answers prayer. He’s so good to me.
He loves me so. He loves me so.
He loves me so. He’s so good to me.
Sixth Reading – Philippians 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Prayer: Thanksgiving for Peace and Comfort
Song – How Great Thou Art
O Lord my God when I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the works thy hand has made
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Your power throughout the universe displayed

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: “My God, how great Thou art!”
(Chorus)
Seventh Reading – Colossians 3:15-17
And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Thanksgiving Prayer Service – Sunday, Nov 22
Thanksgiving Prayer Service
Sunday, November 22, 2020
On the Sunday before Thanksgiving, we are going to have a prayer service. The service will be a little like our Good Friday Tenebrae service, where we have several readings followed by a short message and a prayer. Each section would be focused on thanking God for something specific He has done or a specific part of our lives.
Terrell had a great idea that we could have volunteers for both the readings and the prayers. I’d like to ask each of you to consider volunteering for one of the prayers. The prayers can be done individually or as a team.
You would be able to pray on the theme of your section and include any personal prayers of praise and thanksgiving. If you would like help with what to say for the prayer, I would be more than happy to help.
Below are the verses and themes for the prayers.
- Chronicles 16:23-26 – Thanksgiving for Forgiveness and Salvation
- Luke: 4:18-19; 1 Peter 2:16-17 – Thanksgiving for Freedom, Peace, Our Nation, etc.
- Psalm 23 – Thanksgiving for Health and wellbeing
- Psalm 145:15-19 – Thanksgiving for Provision, Home, Food, Work, etc.
- Ecclesiastes 4:9-11 – Thanksgiving for Family and friends
- Philippians 4:6-7 – Thanksgiving for Peace and comfort
- Colossians 3:15-17 – Thanksgiving for Prayer, God’s Word, Church, etc.
Please select which you would like to do and let me know or go to our signup genius list and sign up for one of the prayers.

Welcome
Opening Song: How Deep the Father’s Love for Us
Verse 1:
How deep the Father’s love for us, how vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son, to make a wretch His treasure
How great the pain of searing loss, the Father turned His face away
As wounds which mar the Chosen One, bring many sons to glory
Verse 2:
Behold the Man upon a cross, my sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice call out among the scoffers
It was my sin that held Him there until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life; I know that it is finished
Verse 3:
I will not boast in anything: no gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ; his death and resurrection
Why should I gain from His reward? I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart: His wounds have paid my ransom
But this I know with all my heart: His wounds have paid my ransom
Invocation
Confession and Forgiveness:
P: Our Heavenly Father asks us to come into His presence.
C: But we are sinful and unworthy.
P: Yes, all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, but Jesus Christ died on the cross that we may be forgiven and washed clean of all our sins by His blood spilled on the cross. If the Lord washes us, we will certainly be clean and pure. We take a moment to bow before the His cross and silently reflect on our lives and confess our sins.
Amen.
P: Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I, therefore, forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen
Song of Praise and Thanksgiving: Amazing Grace
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound. That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now am found. Was blind but now I see.
T’was grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved.
How precious did that grace appear, The hour I first believed.
Through many dangers toils and snares, We have already come,
T’was grace hath brought us safe thus far
And grace will lead us home
When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise,
Than when we’ve first begun
Old Testament Reading – Zephaniah 1:7-16
Be silent before the Lord God! For the day of the Lord is near; the Lord has prepared a sacrifice and consecrated his guests. And on the day of the Lord’s sacrifice — “I will punish the officials and the king’s sons and all who array themselves in foreign attire. On that day I will punish everyone who leaps over the threshold, and those who fill their master’s house with violence and fraud.
“On that day,” declares the Lord, “a cry will be heard from the Fish Gate, a wail from the Second Quarter, a loud crash from the hills. Wail, O inhabitants of the Mortar! For all the traders are no more; all who weigh out silver are cut off. At that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and I will punish the men who are complacent, those who say in their hearts, ‘The Lord will not do good, nor will he do ill.’ Their goods shall be plundered, and their houses laid waste. Though they build houses, they shall not inhabit them; though they plant vineyards, they shall not drink wine from them.”
The great day of the Lord is near, near and hastening fast; the sound of the day of the Lord is bitter; the mighty man cries aloud there. A day of wrath is that day, a day of distress and anguish, a day of ruin and devastation, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick darkness, a day of trumpet blast and battle cry against the fortified cities and against the lofty battlements.
Epistle Reading – 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11
Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need to have anything written to you. For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief. For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him. Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.
Gospel Reading – Matthew 25:14-30
“For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property. To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away. He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more. So also he who had the two talents made two talents more. But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master’s money. Now after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them. And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents; here, I have made five talents more.’ His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ And he also who had the two talents came forward, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me two talents; here, I have made two talents more.’ His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ He also who had received the one talent came forward, saying, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you scattered no seed, so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here, you have what is yours.’ But his master answered him, ‘You wicked and slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I scattered no seed? Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received what was my own with interest. So take the talent from him and give it to him who has the ten talents. For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

When this darkness breaks to light
And the shadows disappear. And my faith shall be my eyes
