Invocation (stand)
Confession and Forgiveness: (stand)
P: As we gather, today, let us cleanse our hearts and our consciences by confessing our sin to God.
(Time of silence for reflection and confession)
C: Heavenly Father, we confess that we are sinful and unclean. We have sinned against you and against our neighbor in our thoughts, words, and actions. We are truly sorry for our sins and sincerely repent of them. We ask for Your mercy. For the sake of Jesus Christ’s bitter suffering and death, please forgive us and renew us that we may walk in Your Spirit to the glory of Your holy name. Amen
P: The Lord has heard your confession. Therefore, as a called and ordained servant of the Lord, in the stead and by the command of my Lord, Jesus Christ, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen
Apostles’ Creed (stand)
I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God
the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayers
First Reading: Acts 2:37-41
Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.
Gospel Reading – Mark 6:17-20
For it was Herod who had sent and seized John and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, because he had married her. For John had been saying to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.” And Herodias had a grudge against him and wanted to put him to death. But she could not, for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he kept him safe. When he heard him, he was greatly perplexed, and yet he heard him gladly.
P: This is the Gospel of the Lord.
C: Praise be to You, O Christ.
Sermon Song – When I Survey The Wondrous Cross
Verse 1
When I survey the wondrous cross,
On which the prince of glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.
Verse 2
Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,
Save in the death of Christ my God.
All the vain things that charm me most,
I sacrifice them to His blood
Verse 3
See from his head, His hands, His feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down.
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown
Verse 4
Were the whole realm of nature mine,
That were an present far too small
Love so amazing so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all. © Public Domain
Sermon/Discussion – “Go Prophesy Somewhere Else!”
Sermon/Discussion Amos 7:7-17
This is what he showed me: behold, the Lord was standing beside a wall built with a plumb line, with a plumb line in his hand. And the Lord said to me, “Amos, what do you see?” And I said, “A plumb line.” Then the Lord said,
“Behold, I am setting a plumb line
in the midst of my people Israel;
I will never again pass by them;
the high places of Isaac shall be made desolate,
and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste,
and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.”
Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words. For thus Amos has said,
“‘Jeroboam shall die by the sword,
and Israel must go into exile
away from his land.’”
And Amaziah said to Amos, “O seer, go, flee away to the land of Judah, and eat bread there, and prophesy there, but never again prophesy at Bethel, for it is the king’s sanctuary, and it is a temple of the kingdom.”
Then Amos answered and said to Amaziah, “I was no prophet, nor a prophet’s son, but I was a herdsman and a dresser of sycamore figs. But the Lord took me from following the flock, and the Lord said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’ Now therefore hear the word of the Lord.
“You say, ‘Do not prophesy against Israel,
and do not preach against the house of Isaac.’
Therefore thus says the Lord:
“‘Your wife shall be a prostitute in the city,
and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword,
and your land shall be divided up with a measuring line;
you yourself shall die in an unclean land,
and Israel shall surely go into exile away from its land.’”
The Lord’s Prayer (stand)
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen
Song – Lord I Need You
Lord I come, I confess. Bowing here, I find my rest.
Without You, I fall apart. You’re the one that guides my heart.
Chorus:
Lord, I need You, oh I need You. Every hour I need You.
My one defense, my righteousness, Oh God, how I need You.
Where sin runs deep, Your grace is more.
Where grace is found is where You are.
And where You are Lord I am free. Holiness is Christ in me.
(Chorus)
So teach my song to rise to You, when temptation comes my way.
And when I cannot stand I’ll fall on You.
Jesus, You’re my hope and stay.
Chorus:
Lord, I need You, oh I need You. Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness, Oh God, how I need You
My one defense, my righteousness, Oh God, how I need You
My one defense, my righteousness, Oh God, how I need You

Invocation
Confession and Forgiveness:
P: We have come here today to worship the Lord. In worship we hear the Word of God, we receive God’s blessings, and respond with thanks and praise. We begin by seeking God’s blessing of forgiveness. He has promised to remove the guilt and shame of our sin through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross.
(a time of silence to reflect and personally confess our sins)
P: Let us confess our sins to the Lord.
P: Heavenly Father,
C: Heavenly Father,
P: I have done things that were wrong.
C: I have done things that were wrong.
P: I have been mean to others.
C: I have been mean to others.
P: I have not obeyed my parents.
C: I have not obeyed my parents.
P: I have not obeyed You, God.
C: I have not obeyed You, God.
P: But I am very sorry.
C: But I am very sorry.
P: Please forgive me.
C: Please forgive me.
P: I love You very much.
C: I love You very much.
P: And I know You love me, too.
C: And I know You love me, too.
P: Amen.
C: Amen.
P: God has heard your apology. He loves you very much. God has told us that when we believe and trust in Him, He makes us His children. As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our sins from us. He has told me to tell you that you are forgiven. So, as His servant, I forgive you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen.
Song: God Is So Good
God is so good. God is so good.

First Reading – Psalm 119:18
Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.
Children’s Message “Believing Is Seeing”
Song: Living Hope
How great the chasm that lay between us.
How high the mountain I could not climb.
In desperation, I turned to heaven,
And spoke Your name into the night.
Then through the darkness Your loving kindness,
Tore through the shadows of my soul.
The work is finished, the end is written,
Jesus Christ, my Living Hope.
Who could imagine so great a mercy.
What heart could fathom such boundless grace.
The God of ages stepped down from glory,
To wear my sin and bear my shame.
The cross has spoken. I am forgiven.
The King of Kings calls me His own.
Beautiful Savior I’m Yours forever,
Jesus Christ, my Living Hope.
Chorus:
Hallelujah, praise the one who set me free!
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me!
You have broken every chain. There’s salvation in Your Name,
Jesus Christ, my Living Hope.
Then came the morning that sealed the promise,
Your buried body began to breathe.
Out of the silence the roaring Lion,
Declared the grave has no claim on me.
(Repeat)
Jesus, Yours is the victory!
(Chorus 2x) © Bethel Music Publishing and Remaining portion is unaffiliated
Second Reading – Hebrews 11:3
By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.
Children’s Message “Made By What’s Not Visible.”
Song: This I Believe
Our Father everlasting, the all creating One, God almighty,
Through Your Holy Spirit conceiving Christ the Son,
Jesus our Savior.
Chorus:
I believe in God our Father. I believe in Christ the Son.
I believe in the Holy Spirit. Our God is three in one.
I believe in the resurrection, that we will rise again.
For I believe in the name of Jesus.
Verse 2:
Our Judge and our Defender, suffered and crucified,
Forgiveness is in You.
Descended into darkness, You rose in glorious life,
Forever seated high.
(Chorus)
Bridge: (2x)
I believe in You. I believe You rose again.
I believe that Jesus Christ is Lord.
Chorus 2:
I believe in life eternal. I believe in the virgin birth.
I believe in the saints’ communion and in Your holy church.
I believe in the resurrection, when Jesus comes again.
For I believe in the name of Jesus.
For I believe in the name of Jesus.

Sermon
Sermon Readings – Romans 1:20-23
For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.
2 Corinthians 4:4
In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
Colossians 2:8
See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.

Closing Song: I Know that My Redeemer Lives
I know that my Redeemer lives.
What comfort this sweet sentence gives!
He lives, He lives, who once was dead.
He lives, my ever-living Head.
He lives triumphant from the grave.
He lives eternally to save.
He lives all-glorious in the sky.
He lives exalted there on high.
He lives to silence all my fears;
He lives to wipe away my tears;
He lives to calm my troubled heart;
He lives all blessings to impart.
He lives and grants me daily breath.
He lives, and I shall conquer death.
He lives my mansion to prepare.
He lives to bring me safely there.
He lives, all glory to His name!
He lives, my Jesus, still the same.
Oh, the sweet joy this sentence gives;
I know that my Redeemer lives!

Song: The Steadfast Love
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases
His mercies never come to an end
They are new every morning, New every morning
Great is Thy faithfulness, O Lord. Great is Thy faithfulness
(Repeat)
Confession and Forgiveness:
P: When God created mankind, He said mankind was very good. Then man rebelled against God and sin entered the world. Immediately after, God promised a savior to save His rebellious creation.
C: Praise be to God whose mercies are new every day.
P: In the fullness of time, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law.
C: Praise be to God whose mercies are new every day.
P: At His baptism, Jesus was numbered among us sinners that He might offer Himself as a sacrifice upon the cross for sinners.
C: Praise be to God whose mercies are new every day.
P: Through Jesus Christ, God bids us come to Him and confess our sins, promising to forgive our sins and purify us.
C: Praise be to God whose mercies are new every day. Let us confess our sins and seek God’s mercy.
(a time of silence to reflect and personally confess our sins)
C: Heavenly Father, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed. We have not loved you with our whole heart and have not loved our neighbor as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ and His suffering and death on the cross, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen
P: The Lord our God is merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin. Therefore, I announce unto you the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. In His stead and by the command of my Lord Jesus Christ, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen. Praise be to God whose mercies are new every day.

Song of Praise and Thanksgiving – Rock of Ages
Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in Thee;
Let the water and the blood,
From thy wounded side which flowed,
Be of sin the double cure; cleanse me from its guilt and power.
Not the labors of my hands can fulfill Thy law’s demands;
Could my zeal no respite know,
Could my tears forever flow,
All for sin could not atone; Thou must save, and Thou alone.
Nothing in my hand I bring, simply to Thy cross I cling;
Naked, come to Thee for dress;
Helpless, look to Thee for grace;
Foul, I to the fountain fly; wash me, Savior, or I die.
While I draw this fleeting breath,
When mine eyelids close in death,
When I soar to worlds unknown,
See Thee on thy judgment throne,
Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in Thee; © Public Domain
Old Testament Reading – Lamentations 3:22-33
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”
The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.
Let him sit alone in silence when it is laid on him; let him put his mouth in the dust— there may yet be hope; let him give his cheek to the one who strikes, and let him be filled with insults.
For the Lord will not cast off forever, but, though he cause grief, he will have compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love; for he does not afflict from his heart or grieve the children of men.
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.
Epistle Reading – 2 Corinthians 8:1-9, 13-15
We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints—and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us. Accordingly, we urged Titus that as he had started, so he should complete among you this act of grace. But as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in our love for you—see that you excel in this act of grace also.
I say this not as a command, but to prove by the earnestness of others that your love also is genuine. For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich…
…For I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened, but that as a matter of fairness your abundance at the present time should supply their need, so that their abundance may supply your need, that there may be fairness. As it is written, “Whoever gathered much had nothing left over, and whoever gathered little had no lack.”
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.
Gospel Reading – Mark 5:21–43
And when Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side, a great crowd gathered about him, and he was beside the sea. Then came one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name, and seeing him, he fell at his feet and implored him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well and live.” And he went with him.
And a great crowd followed him and thronged about him. And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and who had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better but rather grew worse. She had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment. For she said, “If I touch even his garments, I will be made well.” And immediately the flow of blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. And Jesus, perceiving in himself that power had gone out from him, immediately turned about in the crowd and said, “Who touched my garments?” And his disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing around you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me?’” And he looked around to see who had done it. But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling and fell down before him and told him the whole truth. And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.”
While he was still speaking, there came from the ruler’s house some who said, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?” But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not fear, only believe.” And he allowed no one to follow him except Peter and James and John the brother of James. They came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and Jesus saw a commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly. And when he had entered, he said to them, “Why are you making a commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but sleeping.” And they laughed at him. But he put them all outside and took the child’s father and mother and those who were with him and went in where the child was. Taking her by the hand he said to her, “Talitha cumi,” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” And immediately the girl got up and began walking (for she was twelve years of age), and they were immediately overcome with amazement. And he strictly charged them that no one should know this, and told them to give her something to eat.
P: This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise be to You, O Christ.

Sermon Hymn – It Is Well with My Soul
When peace like a river attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll,
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
“It is well, it is well with my soul.”
Chorus:
It is well (it is well) with my soul. (with my soul)
It is well. It is well with my soul.
Though Satan should buffet tho’ trials may come,
Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul.
(Chorus)
My sin, oh the bliss of this glorious thought,
My sin not in part but in whole,
Is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more.
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord oh my soul!
(Chorus)
And Lord haste the day when the faith shall be sight.
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll.
The trump shall resound and the Lord shall descend.
Even so, it is well with my soul.

Nicene Creed (stand)
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end.
And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Closing Song – This Is My Father’s World
This is my Father’s world, and to my listening ears,
All nature sings, and round me rings the music of the spheres.
This is my Father’s world. I rest me in the thought,
Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas;
His hand the wonders wrought.
This is my Father’s world. The birds their carols raise.
The morning light, the lily white, declare their Maker’s praise.
This is my Father’s world. He shines in all that’s fair.
In the rustling grass I hear Him pass. He speaks to me everywhere.
This is my Father’s world. O let me ne’er forget,
That though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the ruler yet. This is my Father’s world. Why should my heart be sad?
The Lord is King; let the heavens ring!
God reigns; let the earth be glad!
This is my Father’s world. Why should my heart be sad?
The Lord is King; let the heavens ring!
God reigns; let the earth be glad!

Welcome
Opening Song: How Great Is Our God
The splendor of a King, clothed in majesty,
Let all the earth rejoice, all the earth rejoice.
He wraps himself in light, and darkness tries to hide,
And trembles at His voice, trembles at His voice.
Chorus:
How great is our God. Sing with me.
How great is our God. All will see,
How great, how great is our God.
Age to age He stands, and time is in His hands,
Beginning and the end, beginning at the end.
The Godhead, three in one, Father, Spirit, Son,
The Lion and the Lamb, the Lion and the Lamb.
(Chorus)
Bridge:
Name above all names, Worthy of all praise,
My heart will sing, “How great is our God.”
Repeat

Invocation
Confession and Forgiveness:
P: Come into the presence of the Lord our God.
C: Have mercy, O Lord. If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand; but if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
(A time of silence to reflect and personally confess our sins)
P: I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin. Let us confess our sin before the Lord. Let us confess together.
C: Heavenly Father, we confess that we are sinners. We have sinned against you and our neighbors. We have not loved you with our whole heart and we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen.
P: The Lord is gracious and merciful. He promises to forgive our sins. Therefore, upon this, your confession, as a called and ordained servant of the Lord, in the stead and by the command of my Lord, Jesus Christ, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen.
Song of Praise and Thanksgiving – This Is the Feast
Refrain:
This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
Worthy is Christ, the Lamb who was slain,
Whose blood set us free to be people of God.
(Refrain)
Power, riches, wisdom, and strength,
And honor, blessing, and glory are His. (Refrain)
Sing with all the people of God,
And join in the hymn of all creation;
“Blessing, honor, glory, and might,
Be to God and the Lamb forever. Amen.”
(Refrain)
For the Lamb who was slain has begun his reign. Alleluia!

Old Testament Reading – Proverbs 15:1-7
A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouths of fools pour out folly. The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good. A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit. A fool despises his father’s instruction, but whoever heeds reproof is prudent. In the house of the righteous there is much treasure, but trouble befalls the income of the wicked. The lips of the wise spread knowledge; not so the hearts of fools.
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.
Gospel Reading – Luke 16:19-31
“There was a rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. And at his gate was laid a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover, even the dogs came and licked his sores. The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried, and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.’ But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.’ And he said, ‘Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father’s house— for I have five brothers—so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment.’ But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.’ And he said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent.’ He said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.’”
P: This is the Gospel of the Lord.
C: Praise be to You, O Christ.
Children’s Message
Sermon Hymn – How Great Thou Art
O Lord my God when I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the works Thy hand has made.
I see the stars. I hear the rolling thunder.
Your power throughout the universe displayed.
Chorus:
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee.
How great Thou art! How great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee.
How great Thou art! How great Thou art!
And when I think that God His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die. I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.
(Chorus)
When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: “My God, how great Thou art!”

Sermon – “Apologetics – Always Have an Answer”
Sermon Text – 1 Peter 3:8-16
Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing. For, “Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit; let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.” Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good? But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.

Apostles’ Creed (stand)
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God
the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy Christian Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen

Closing Song – Stand Up Stand Up For Jesus (stand)
Stand up, stand up for Jesus, ye soldiers of the cross.
Lift high His royal banner; it must not suffer loss.
From vict’ry unto vict’ry His army He shall lead,
Till ev’ry foe is vanquished, and Christ is Lord indeed.
Stand up, stand up for Jesus; the trumpet call obey;
Stand forth in mighty conflict in this His glorious day.
Let all His faithful serve Him against unnumbered foes;
Let courage rise with danger and strength to strength oppose.
Stand up, stand up for Jesus; stand in His strength alone.
The arm of flesh will fail you, ye dare not trust your own.
Put on the Gospel armor; each piece put on with prayer.
Where duty calls or danger, be never wanting there.
Stand up, stand up for Jesus; the strife will not be long;
This day the din of battle, the next the victor’s song.
The soldiers, overcoming, their crown of life shall see,
And with the King of Glory shall reign eternally. © Public Domain

Welcome
Opening Song: Mighty To Save
Everyone needs compassion, a Love that’s never failing.
Let mercy fall on me.
Everyone needs forgiveness, the kindness of a savior.
The hope of nations
Chorus:
Savior, He can move the mountains.
My God is mighty to save. He is mighty to save.
Forever, author of salvation,
He rose and conquered the grave. Jesus conquered the grave.
So take me as you find me, all my fears and failures,
And fill my life again.
I give my life to follow everything I believe in.
Now I surrender. (I surrender)
Chorus:
Savior, He can move the mountains.
My God is mighty to save. He is mighty to save.
Forever, author of salvation,
He rose and conquered the grave. Jesus conquered the grave.

Responsive Psalm – Psalm 19:7-11
P: The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul;
C: The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;
P: The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
C: The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes;
P: The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;
C: The rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether.
P: More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold;
C: Sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.
P: Moreover, by them is your servant warned;
C: In keeping them there is great reward.

Song of Praise and Thanksgiving: Praise To The Lord The Almighty
Praise to the Lord the Almighty, the King of creation.
O my soul, praise Him for He is your health and salvation.
Let all who hear, now to His temple draw near,
Joining in glad adoration.
Praise to the Lord who o’er all things is wondrously reigning,
And as on wings of an eagle, uplifting, sustaining.
Have you not seen, all that is needful has been,
Sent by His gracious ordaining?
Praise to the Lord! O let all that is in me adore Him.
All that has life and breath come now with praises before Him.
Let the “Amen” sound from His people again.
Gladly forever adore Him. © Public Domain
Old Testament Reading – Isaiah 55:8-11
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.
Epistle Reading – Hebrews 4:12-16
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account. Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.
Gospel Reading – Matthew 7:24-29
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, for he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.
P: This is the Gospel of the Lord.
C: Praise be to You, O Christ.

Sermon Hymn – Thy Strong Word
Thy strong word did cleave the darkness;
At Thy speaking it was done.
For created light we thank Thee,
While Thine ordered seasons run.
Refrain:
Alleluia, alleluia! Praise to Thee who light dost send!
Alleluia, alleluia! Alleluia without end!
Lo, on those who dwelt in darkness,
Dark as night and deep as death,
Broke the light of thy salvation,
Breathed thine own life-giving breath. (Refrain)
Thy strong Word be- speaks us righteous;
Bright with thine own holiness,
Glorious now, we press toward glory,

Sermon – “Why the Bible Matters”
Prayers: Text in prayer requests to (813) 326-5255
Nicene Creed (stand)
Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer

Closing Song: Whom Shall I Fear
You hear me when I call. You are my morning song.
Though darkness fills the night, it cannot hide the light.
Whom shall I fear?
You crush the enemy underneath my feet.
You are my sword and shield, though troubles linger still.
Whom shall I fear?
Chorus:
I know who goes before me. I know who stands behind.
The God of angel armies is always by my side.
The One who reigns forever, He is a friend of mine.
The God of angel armies is always by my side.
My strength is in Your name for You alone can save.
You will deliver me. Yours is the victory!
Whom shall I fear? Whom shall I fear?

Songs of Praise and Thanksgiving – Beautiful Savior
Beautiful Savior, King of creation,
Son of God and Son of man.
Truly I’d love Thee, Truly I’d serve Thee.
Light of my soul, my joy, my crown.
Fair are the meadows. Fair are the woodlands,
Robed in the flow’rs of blooming spring.
Jesus is fairer. Jesus is purer.
He makes our sorrowing spirit sing.
Beautiful Savior, Lord of the nations,
Son of God and Son of man.
Glory and honor, praise adoration,
Now and forever more be Thine! © 1957 New Spring
Old Testament Reading: Proverbs 30:5-9
Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Do not add to his words, lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar. Two things I ask of you; deny them not to me before I die: Remove far from me falsehood and lying; give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is needful for me, lest I be full and deny you and say, “Who is the Lord?” or lest I be poor and steal and profane the name of my God.
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.
Epistle Reading – Ephesians 4:11-16
And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.
Sermon Song – Cornerstone
My hope is built on nothing less,
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly trust in Jesus’ name.
Chorus:
Christ alone, Cornerstone, Weak made strong in the Savior’s love.
Through the storm He is Lord, Lord of all.
Verse 2:
When darkness seems to hide His face,
I rest on His unchanging grace.
In every high and stormy gale My anchor holds within the veil.
My anchor holds within the veil.
(Chorus)
He is Lord. Lord of all.
Verse 3:
When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found,
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless, stand before the throne.
Chorus:
Christ alone, Cornerstone, Weak made strong in the Savior’s love.
Through the storm He is Lord, Lord of all.

Sermon/Discussion
“Is There Absolute Truth and Why Does It Matter?”
Sermon/Discussion – John 18:37-38
Then Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” After he had said this, he went back outside to the Jews and told them, “I find no guilt in him.

Sermon – “How Do We Honor the Sabbath?”
Sermon Reading – Mark 2:23-28
One Sabbath he was going through the grainfields, and as they made their way, his disciples began to pluck heads of grain. And the Pharisees were saying to him, “Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?” And he said to them, “Have you never read what David did, when he was in need and was hungry, he and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God, in the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those who were with him?” And he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”

Amen

Closing Song: Marvelous Light
Chorus:
Into marvelous light I’m running, out of darkness out of shame.
By the cross you are the truth, You are the life, You are the way.
I once was fatherless, a stranger with no hope.
Your kindness wakened me, wakened me from my sleep, now.
Your love it beckons deeply, a call to come and die.
By grace now I will come. Take this life, take your life!
Pre-Chorus:
Sin has lost its power! Death has lost its sting!
From the grave you’ve risen victoriously!
Chorus:
Into marvelous light I’m running, out of darkness out of shame.
By the cross you are the truth, You are the life, You are the way.
My dead heart now is beating, my deepest stains now clean.
Your breath fills up my lungs, now I’m free, now I’m free.

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases
His mercies never come to an end
They are new every morning, New every morning
Great is Thy faithfulness, O Lord. Great is Thy faithfulness
Song of Praise and Thanksgiving – Holy, Holy, Holy
Holy, holy, holy, Lord God almighty:
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee.
Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty,
God in three persons blessed Trinity.
Holy, holy, holy, all the saints adore Thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea.
Cherubim and Seraphim falling down before Thee,
Which wert and art and evermore shall be.
Holy, holy, holy, though the darkness hide Thee,
Though the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see,
Only Thou art holy there is none beside Thee,
Perfect in pow’r, in love, and purity.
Holy, holy, holy, Lord God almighty!
All Thy works shall praise Thy name in earth and sky and sea.
Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty,
God in three persons blessed Trinity.

Old Testament Reading – Deuteronomy 6:4-9
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.
Epistle Reading – Hebrews 1:1–4
Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.
Reader: This is the Word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.
Gospel Reading – Matthew 3:13-17
Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented. And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
P: This is the Gospel of the Lord.
C: Praise be to You, O Christ.

Apostles’ Creed (stand)
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God
the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy Christian Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
